Jim Moore: Jim did not want the Squad Leader position. As a SP4, he was content being a rifleman in the Squad. After discussion and persuasion, Jim allowed that he would do his best. He was a very effective and respected Squad Leader. The friendship and bond between Jim and Chuck (M60 gunner) was remarkable. November 13th 1969 was a bad day. When Jim was hit and went down, Chuck stood (all 5’2”) fully exposed and returned fire with the M60 at full rounds per minute. The barrel was red. I carry Jim and Frank Sibayan and their “Wall” location with me every day. I miss them. Not only Memorial Weekend but every day I miss them. I am proud and honored to have known Jim. 3d Platoon, Delta was truly a brotherhood! !

Jimmy was my squad leader who was responsible for my becoming an RTO instead of point man!  I thought I would not be able to handle it because of my size, but Jimmy helped me out of more canals, rice paddies, and muddy river banks than I can ever remember. God bless his memory!

Frank Sibayan: Frank had ambitions and dreams. Although most of us were Selective Service (drafted) and had no idea or plans for a future, Frank knew what he wanted to do with his life. SERVICE to his Hawaii. As a curious and inquisitive person, I had a problem with moving forward in the column to see what was going on. The routine was that Frank would tap me on the shoulder and ask, “Hey, 36, who’s point man, you or me?” Then he would give the thumb sign to get back where I belonged. I carry Frank and Jim Moore and their “Wall” location with me every day. I miss them. Not only Memorial Weekend but every day I miss them. I am proud and honored to have known Frank. 3d Platoon, Delta was truly a brotherhood! !

Frankie and I, along with Ronald Cunningham, arrived at Delta co. in early June, 1969. As we walked in the door they made Frankie the pointman, gave Ronnie the thumpgun and me, the radio. Frankie was shot when we walked into an ambush on July 18, 1969. He had just graduated from law school and our platoon sergeant, Ron Payne, remembers Frankie's ambition was to become the first senator from Hawaii. We were best friends and it's hard to believe our friendship lasted only a little over a month. He was a great guy and I'll never forget him.

Oscar Lee White. Born July 6, 1948 and Killed July 10, 1969.

Sgt. White was with Delta Company less than two months before he died in action.  That was not enough time for many of us to get to know him well.  In the short time he was with the company my impression of him was that he was a good soldier and a fair minded individual.  When we read his name at the reunion I thought of him and wondered about his life before Vietnam.  Upon my return from the reunion I did some research and, with the help of a sympathetic librarian from the Weld County Library in Greeley, Co., obtained an obituary on Sgt. White.

White had married in February of 1969.  Both he and his wife were graduates of Highland High School.  Sgt. White graduated in 1967 and had lettered in football, basketball and baseball.  He entered the Army in May of 1968 and the article states that he had been in Vietnam only 7 weeks before being killed.  Funeral services were held in the gymnasium of Highland High School and he was buried in the Eaton Cemetery with a military honor guard in attendance.

White was survived by his wife, his parents and three sisters.

In my own small way I wished to pay my respects to one of our fallen comrades with this memorial.
