Just wanted to say hello to all my old buddies in Bravo company. I can’t believe that it has been almost 40 years since we all went to hell together. I have talked to “Doc” Leppert and Tom Harshberger in the last couple of days, talk about a blast from the past. It’s kind of surreal talking on the phone to someone that you haven’t seen in 40 years, their voice is the same but you can’t see them so you still have this picture of what they looked like so many years ago. Those days that we spent in Viet Nam are never far from my thoughts and it is still hard to sort out the feelings that I have about them. On the one hand I am angry with the people that led us into that mess, and on the other hand I met some great guys that I would probably never have met otherwise. I hope to get to see a lot of you at the reunion in Denver….Mike

I joined the 5th/60th as the 2nd Plt Ldr during Tet. Six weeks later I moved from XO to CO where all my line platoon leaders were E-6s. The Battalion CO, LTC Eric Antilla (sp) made me the CO the day following the incident at Fire Base Jaeger on or about February 25th. The night the fire base got overrun, I had the 2nd plt set up on an ambush 3 clicks east of the fire base on the north side of the high way. I left two of my men back for “safety” reasons. One just arrived in country and the other (a silver star recipient) with two weeks left before he was due to rotate home, were both found dead in my command bunker. One was wearing my field jacket which prompted people to list me as KIA which took a couple of days to clear up. From our ambush position you could see the mo-gas APCs exploding like one ball Roman Candles. The Recon Plt was hit three times within three clicks of the fire base as they responded. The Bravo Company FOs RTO had to call in VT on the camp before the VC would pull back outside the wire where what was left of the Recon Plt dispatched them. I stayed on as Bravo’s CO for at lest 6 months through the May Offensive until I was wounded for the second time. I remember Lt. Lee Alley was the Recon Plt Ldr when I first arrived at Bravo. At some point he was put in for the CMH, but it was down graded to a DSC. I always liked Lee. He had a good attitude. Lee, if you are still around – how about those combat loss reports? I stayed with the Bn during the transition to the Big Red 1, returned to I Corps 18 months later flying CH-47s, and retired a LTC. I currently serve on the faculty of four university’s and do a lot of fishing. God bless you all who were fortunate to return to family and loved ones — for those who did not, may we never forget.

Welcome home brothers in arms! Would like to talk with anyone who served with me.
    God Bless all of you.

    “ATTENTION ALL BRAVO CO MEN”

The second Bi-annual Bravo Co reunion (June 2009) was a great success. Everyone we talked to had a great time and voted to hold another one in the summer of 2011. Most of those that attended, have said they will be at the 5/60th reunion, June 17th – 20th, 2010, in Wichita. Please join us there.
Brian McCormick, Capt. Tom Russell and I have already started searching for more Bravo guy to attend these reunions. You can help by sending us any copies of old orders that you have so we can get the info we need to do an internet search for them. We have found over 100 guys that way. Also if you have a friend that you are looking for, send his name and any orders you have to my e-mail address and we will try to find him for you.
If you have never been to a reunion, you have no idea what you are missing. Almost everyone I have talked to has said it was one of the highlights of the past 40 years of their life. You should really go to one. You will not believe the closeness that you feel with these guys, even after 40 years. Even if you don’t remember them, you still shared the same experiences good and bad, and that creates a bond that you will not believe. Hope to see you at the next reunion.

I received a near fatal head wound from an RPG hitting a track in April of 1967 and never returned to B Co. I have kept in touch with Dennis Evenson over the years, but have lost touch with other members of 3rd Platoon. Would love to hear from Howard Hillard, Lt. Goodrich and so many others. We didn’t come home to ticker tape parades, but we can be proud of our service. No one can take that away. I only hope in the future that the government has a clearer vision as to when to send young men (and now women) into harm’s way. Welcome home and thanks! .

But really bummed that I’m not even on the Co. ‘B’ roster!..maybe I wasn’t even over there! Anybody ever hear from Curtis? The rear security who lost his leg from that boobytrap?

Was in 1st Platoon of “B” Co. Remember the “Plain of Reeds”, the convoy escorts from Saigon to Dong Tam, airmobiles to “The Testicles”, the many “ambush” patrols around Binh Phuoc and who can forget the 1968 Tet in the racetrack in Saigon. Would love to hear from anyone from Bravo Company.

I commanded B. Co., 5th Battalion 60th Infantry from February to July or August 1967.  I commanded C Company for a brief time when the Company Commander was wounded during an operation in the Plain of Reeds.  At the time I was the Battalion S-3 Air.  Later, before returning to CONUS, I took over B Company, again, during the Tet Offensive when the Company Commander was wounded.
When I left Vietnam, I buried the memories deep and tried to forget the experience.  After about 15 years I began to come out of my shell.  When I was in B Company, Sergeant Harold Board was the 1st Sergeant.  1st Lt. Jim Palmer was one of the Platoon Leaders and Lt. David Jones was another one.  Staff Sergeant Quenga was Acting Platoon Leaders when he was killed by a VC booby trap.
If any of you were in B Company during the early part of 1967, I would be honored to hear from you.

I arrived in Viet Nam in Dec 1966 and returned home in Dec 1967. I served with the 1st platton of B Co. We moved from Bearcat to Dong Tham were Lt Palmer got wounded on our 1st patrol, charlie fired a few mortar rounds at us in the afternoon but coudn’t hit squat because we were moving. Later we operated from an airstrip a few miles from Dong Tham, my APC hit a mine and sent me to the hospital for 18 glorious days. The day that we hit the mine our airstrip got hit by mortars at night. Among the wounded was our batallion comander Col. Truscott. When I returned from the hospital I was given the bad news that my team leader Sgt Anderson had drowned while crossing a river chasing charlie. I rejoined my company and moved to Binh Phuoc where we cought hell for many months. I lost my platton Sgt Quenga, Spec4 Groff, Spec4 Johnson and other dear friends whose names escape me, but not their faces. Until this day I remember 1st Sgt Board and his crazy tirades. He was some character! Maybe someone will write a book about him. All kidding aside I had all the respect in the world for him and everyone else who served with me. I will not end without saying that my most trusted friend was Sgt Lester Brown, who I always picked to go on patrol with me. I’m glad that I served with the 1st platton and B Company. Thank you captain Russell for being part of us. God bless you all and may God Bless America
